Big Art July 2019 Recap

"Big Art" art camp, July 2019! This time we learned about ancient Greek and Roman sculpture and architecture, and especially how those mythically white relics actually used to be brightly painted. Of course, we painted our own real plaster columns to bring home... a double dose of art history and art-in-action!  Also completed was a 48"x48" canvas with gorgeous circle patterns, a la Kandinsky, LeWitt, and Klee. This piece will be on display at the Woodland Aquatic Center for all to see! So proud and happy about getting to know and work with all these cool kids! Next up, "Sketching...

June's Outdoor Photography Camp Pics

Small group, big ideas. We explored several types of photography, including film, digital, and cyanotype, and I was consistently surprised by each child's unique perspective and artistic vision. Everyone filled up or nearly filled up an entire album that told the story of their time at camp, and in many ways, the story of photography itself. Special bonus: besides one windy day that had us chasing down our negatives across the baseball fields, the weather held out again with no rain days at all.  There are still three camps this summer, so if you want to join the fun, sign...

Woodland Park and the Brooklyn Art Library Adventure

Last year, I had the privilege of compiling the paintings and drawings of 38 Woodland Park art camp and masterclass students aged 4-11 into a sketchbook that now permanently lives at the Brooklyn Art Library. It took all this time for it to be officially added to the collection, but it's there now for all to see! Yay! Brooklyn Art Library is home to over 41,000 sketchbooks from over 130 different countries. It's the largest sketchbook collection in the world. Pretty cool.  You can access the WP kiddos' work digitally here, maybe catch it on a touring exhibit, or even visit it in person at...

Friday Night Creative Chill Etched Glass Pics

This month's Friday Night Creative Chill was all about etching glass, and what a great time it was. Everyone made such gorgeous pieces to keep for themselves or give as gifts and best of all, learned a new technique to try at home. Hopefully you can tell from the photos how varied and amazing the finished projects were, with trees, pinecones, bees, dragonflies, celestial bodies, and intricate folk art designs all making beautiful appearances on pitchers, carafes, tumblers, and wine glasses. Thanks to all! Don't forget to sign up through Woodland Park Parks and Rec for next month's offering: Rustic Wind Chimes....

June's "Sketching Like a Boss" Art Camp Recap

Woodland Park Parks and Rec Art Camp Numero Dos of 2019 has wrapped up, and here are some pics, collaged for ease!  "Sketching Like a Boss" was another smash hit. The kids were so much fun and so observant at each location we sketched. We made the rounds at Meadow Wood Sports Complex and didn't even get rained out, even though it pretty much rained or hailed every day otherwise. An interesting and unexpected event was when the Woodland Park Police did a training at the park and we were able to watch (and sketch!) their vehicle maneuvers and squeeze...
